Updated: Feb 10

Nurse navigating registration process

Welcome to the fourth installment of our Step-by-Step Guide to Becoming a Registered Nurse in Saudi Arabia. In this edition, we delve into the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) registration process.

Understanding SCFHS Registration

The SCFHS is the authoritative body responsible for licensing healthcare professionals in Saudi Arabia. For nurses, obtaining SCFHS registration is mandatory to practice legally within the Kingdom. This process ensures that all healthcare practitioners meet the country's stringent standards, thereby upholding the quality of healthcare services.

SCFHS Nursing Categories and Experience Requirements for Non-Saudis

The SCFHS classifies nursing professionals into distinct categories based on their educational background and professional experience. Non-Saudis are required to meet specific minimum experience requirements for each category:

  1. Nurse Technician

    • Education Requirement: Diploma in nursing (minimum three years).

  2. Nurse Specialist

    • Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent.

  3. Senior Nurse Specialist / Consultant Nurse

    • Education Requirement: Master’s degree or doctorate in nursing.

Understanding these categories and experience requirements is crucial as they determine your eligibility for classification and subsequent registration with the SCFHS.

Important Prerequisite: DataFlow Verification

Before starting the SCFHS registration process, candidates must complete Primary Source Verification (PSV) through the DataFlow Group. This step ensures that your credentials are authentic and verified by the SCFHS.

📝 Step-by-Step Guide to SCFHS Registration

  1. Create a Mumaris+ Account Visit the Mumaris+ portal and register by providing accurate personal and professional information.

  2. Check the List of Qualified Studies Before applying for a Qualification Study, verify whether your academic qualification is already recognized. If it’s on the SCFHS Qualified Studies List, you won’t need to undergo the Qualification Study process.

  3. Initiate the Qualification Study (If Needed) If your qualification is not listed, apply for a Qualification Study through Mumaris+. This involves submitting your academic credentials for evaluation by specialized SCFHS committees.

  4. Apply for Professional Classification After successful verification, submit an application for Professional Classification. This step assigns you a professional category based on your qualifications and experience. Ensure you have all necessary documents prepared, including:

    • Educational qualification certificates

    • An active nursing license

    • Experience certificates

These documents, previously submitted for DataFlow verification, will be required again for this process.

💡 Note: Once approved, you will receive an eligibility number, which is required to book your Saudi Nursing Licensure Examination (SNLE).

  5. Book and Complete the Saudi Nursing Licensure Examination (SNLE) Using the eligibility number, schedule and pass the SNLE to demonstrate your competency in nursing practice. For preparation tips and resources, refer to our SNLE Exam Guide.

  6. Apply for Professional Registration With all prior steps completed, proceed to apply for Professional Registration through Mumaris+. This finalizes your eligibility to practice nursing in Saudi Arabia.
